Lydia's Story
LYDIA'S STORY
Even though your child is hooked up to machinery, monitors or in recovery they are still a child and have a desire to play to the best of their abilities and limitations.

In our daughter's first 6 years of life, she has spent 50-plus days in five different hospitals enduring three major operations, fevers and infections. The visits to the doctors and therapists seem endless, and we know there is a lifetime of visits yet to come.

Greatly affected was her brother who was 2 when she was born. He has sacrificed greatly because of all her medical needs and attentions. His out going personality diminished with each emergency room and hospital visit. This is not a place for children. But if you can't find respite or have a reliable sitter at beacons call. . .he was forced to experience more than average kids.

I've spent endless hours reliving the first six years of our daughters life in a therapeutic grieving manor to write our story. Then I realized it was a bit to much for this story. I would be willing to share it for anyone who would be interested.

Our main comfort in life is Jesus Christ, knowing He has and will guide us through this tough situation. My wife and I need to focus on our relationship so we will be a strong team advocate for both our children. We need to try to focus on raising them to the best of their abilities . . . and our resources.

With each operation and procedure we can see positive results. We are learning so much about children and their proper development. We want to put our experience towards helping others.

Both children, at this writing, are currently healthy and advancing. We praise God for that. Our son was forced to grow up too fast and our daughter is delayed. We have changed our paradigm in life to a simple and caring format. We really appreciate the simple things as we travel life at a new slower pace. If you go too fast . . you really overlook so much of life.

It was this situation that altered our paths in life. We are understanding and willing to reach out and help others who come behind us who have been thrown into a special needs life. This is the very reason Living Legacy was established.
